Psalm 1
This is help fresh from the heart of the Spirit of the Living God to assist us in living with joy and wisdom here and now because we are living in the light of the coming judgment. This has permanent impact on the there and then.
This psalm describes a man living in the light of the judgment, vs. 5. If the blessed state of a man only holds true for him up to the Refiner's fire (judgment of his works), it's really not much of a blessed state. This psalm assumes the joyous state to survive the judgment. It is truly 'good news' indeed because it equips us for the now and the then.
The stated blessedness of a man is more rooted in his successful passing through the Refiner's Fire judgment and rejoicing on the other side than it is about his securing some temporary advantage in this life as a result of relationship wisdom and business acumen found in the Scriptures.
The triads found in the first verse are the Spirit's summary statements regarding what's true about life. Delighting in the Law of YHWH is the prominent key.
The blessed man is affected by the Law of YHWH in how he walks, how he stands, how he sits.
The blessed man is wise about what counsel he listens to, what path he follows, what seat he finally takes in his settled system of belief.
The blessed man has no fellowship with the ungodly, the sinner, the scornful.
Verse 3 sounds the same truth found elsewhere in the Scriptures that it takes fruit to glorify the Father, and to add what Yeshua also stated about fruit bearing, it takes much fruit to do that and He is looking for it. This is the purpose of the judgment for believers.
And therefore, the TEST, or the Refiner's Fire judgment awaits when we see Him.
It must be assumed the Spirit of God knows what a blessed state of men is predicated upon and how it works. It must therefore be understood that a man, if he has any wisdom at all, would pursue this blessed state at all costs simply because the Spirit promotes it.
YHWH knows the way of the righteous. 'Way' is marked by footprints, not studied answers to a church school quiz-o. Footprints indicate how I am actually walking. Footprints can only be seen by looking behind me as I walk, as in reviewing how I actually lived last week/month/year. Will the Spirit give me strength to brutally assess what I really believe as I gaze over the set of prints I left behind me? Will I, like David, abruptly change my path to walk in His ways? Psa 119:59-60.
The path behind us ought to be marked by sudden stops, knee prints and changes in direction as the Spirit reproves me and then corrects me and then instructs me in the path of righteousness. If the path behind me is not beset with zigs and zags, I might be dead from the hips both ways and just not aware of it. Unless I have already attained to my calling. I confess, like Paul, tis not so, and so, forgetting the past and reaching forth onto the things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling in Yeshua ha Mashiach.
The Refiner's Fire judgment is testing for fruit, which is proper clothing, the wedding garment, the white clothing of the saints called 'righteous acts'.
Revelation 19:7-9 Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."
YHWH knows the way of the righteous. That's why Yeshua commanded those who would listen to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness - He wants to know us, and He will when we seek His righteousness and walk in what we find. Many were sorely disappointed (Matthew 7:22-23) when Yeshua tested their works and had to tell them He didn't know them. That's not a good day in the neighborhood. Saved, we are to seek righteousness. Hmmm. That's indecipherable except that those saved by His righteousness will be tested for living up to the calling - will be tested for righteous works, or acts.
Yeshua and the Spirit are giving us a heads up.
