The Jewish religion rests upon the “Oral” Law, not the Law as given to Moses at Mt. Sinai, but as sifted through the mouth of the sages and the Rabbis who felt called to go to the mountain to hear what God had to say, and then came back to the people and restate what they thought God was really after. At least that’s the story.
The only problem with that is that the sin package we are all cursed with won’t allow itself to be exposed and killed, as the Law so handily does, and so had/has to cloak itself with a modified “law” religion as a suit of armor to stop the arrows of execution. It is a way of warding off the conviction of sin and the receiving of the solution to sin which requires a huge humbling. Nope, not going to happen when the flesh gets to edit the words from God’s own mouth. How convenient.
And so, the oral traditions of the Rabbis gave them authority over the “uneducated” masses as well as job security to run the massively complex religious system they constructed.
We have the same system today. The “oral” laws of the preachers of Christianity trump the Tanach and the writings of the N. T. Apostles and give job security to those certificated ones to manage the complex and contradictory tenets of the evangelical faith system.
For example, consider the epiphany that must have occurred in the heart of God somewhere between the O.T. and the N.T. in that what were abominations to Him then are now the new heart of God in accepting sodomites or liars or the disobedient to parents into His loving arms because, after all, His grace is now all that matters, truth having been set aside in order to show the more inclusive love of God. Not to mention that it is more lucrative for those who must meet gospel budgets and the career goals of the religious elite.
That must have been one powerful sermon He heard!
Jeremiah recorded the Most High’s anger over this in chapter 7 where He said “you come into My sanctuary with your abominations and try to worship before Me claiming you have been saved to do all these abominations.”
It is as if our getting saved causes God to change His heart about our sin and accepts us now that we have accepted Jesus by praying Him into our hearts. To think about this, it becomes apparent we actually believe that it is God who gets saved and has a change of heart, a transformation, a repentance, a born-again experience, and sets aside what used to be abominations and iniquities, having delivered us from the Law (the real problem) and we couldn’t be happier.
That goes a long way towards explaining the mess of compromised lives caught up in modern “Christianity” today. The pornography, the blasphemy, the child abuse, the spousal unfaithfulness, the scandals in church leadership all betray our attempts to hide our lack of the fear of the LORD with emotionalism and entertainment in the church to go along with the new legal system (less law, less sin).
As long as we continue to pay someone else to go to the mountain of God and hear what He has to say and come back down to us laity and transmit the message in three points and a poem with some emotional background music, this conversion of the faith as was once given to the saints into a new oral tradition will continue.
That sin package was the culprit then and it is now. In addition, there is the Enemy of Truth deploying his ministers of deception who successfully masquerade as ministers of light, undetectable by a groggy church who have been led to believe that they are wealthy and have need of nothing. Looks like it really affects the eyesight to be so un-needy.
It is an easy task to perpetrate this deadly hold over unsuspecting believers when we will not take responsibility to our own feeding but, again, would rather pay someone else to do it for us.
When the veil in the Temple was torn from top to bottom, and the Holy Spirit is given to all who call upon the name of YHWH as found in the name of His Son, Yeshua, the unmistakable intent was for you and I to come before the Mighty One and hear Him for ourselves and to obey what He speaks without an intermediary.
Is organization sin? No. But to let someone else systematize our faith, who has budgets to fill and approvals to garner and careers to maintain, is.
Jealously guard what has been purchased for you at such an extreme and immeasurable price. You search the Scriptures. You study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. You feed yourself.
